Can You Cheat Age?
We’re all getting older and the wear and tear that naturally occurs in the body is in some ways inevitable… wrinkles, sagging skin, weak bones and fingernails…these are some of the most telltale signs of aging. And while we can’t stop the aging process and we must celebrate ourselves as our bodies transform into older age, by adding certain supplements into your routine you can help slow down these signs of aging and restore a youthful appearance. Read on for five supplements that are essential in keeping you looking and feeling as youthful as you can!
Silica
Silica is a mineral that converts to calcium in the cells, and is essential for keeping the body’s physical integrity including bones, muscles, arteries, and connective tissue. As we age, our silica levels naturally decline. According to this source, we lose approximately 80% of the silica we had at birth by the time we are teenagers. Additionally, due to industrial farming, much of the earth’s soil has been depleted of natural mineral content, so the food we are eating is typically stripped of the mineral rich content it once had. All this being said, it’s necessary to supplement when it comes to silica. Bamboo extract is the richest known source of silica as it contains over 70% organic silica and is 10 times more potent than horsetail silica. If you want to maintain strong bones, nails and teeth, prevent wrinkles, keep skin vibrant and hair thick and strong, then we highly recommend incorporating Bamboo Silica into your routine.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C decreases oxidative stress in the cells, which helps them grow and regenerate. Therefore, vitamin C helps create healthy, vibrant skin that is less susceptible to forming wrinkles. The recommended daily intake of vitamin C is 100 mg, which is about one and a half oranges, or two cups of strawberries. But again, you need to ensure that the food you’re ingesting is organic and fresh enough to still maintain its vitamin content. Another alternative is always a chewable, swallowable or liquid supplement of vitamin C.
Turmeric
Curcumin is an active ingredient found in turmeric that is said to be one of the most powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents (more powerful of an anti-inflammatory than aspirin and ibuprofen!) Turmeric promotes health and longevity by protecting the brain, acting as an anti-cancer agent, and reducing symptoms of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (among many other benefits). Turmeric’s antioxidant levels are comparable with those of vitamins C and E, making it a strong defence against aging and stressed skin.
Resveratrol
Resveratrol is an antioxidant compound found in plants such as blueberries, rhubarb, grapes, peanuts, and cocoa, and is considered to be a longevity agent. In addition to protecting the endothelial lining of blood vessels, reducing the risk of stroke and heart disease, and supporting weight control, resveratrol also promotes skin health by reducing free radical damage of skin cells, which reduces the appearance of aging. And as a bonus, resveratrol occurs naturally in wine! Although it might sound tempting to take a tip from the French and get your resveratrol intake from a glass of red, both resveratrol and curcumin can be difficult for the body to absorb efficiently. We did our research and found that these two supplements offer the greatest possible nutrient absorption when taken together, so we created Liposomal Curcumin Resveratrol, an antioxidant longevity formula.
Glucosamine
Although glucosamine is often taken as a topical treatment for osteoarthritis and joint pain, a study published in the Journal of Dermatologic Treatment showed a 34% reduction in visible wrinkles and fine lines in participants who ingested it (source). When taken as a supplement, glucosamine improves skin hydration and decreases wrinkles, and according to the same source as above, is “a building block for skin-plumping hyaluronic acid.”
