Getting the most from JointStart

Painful joints can range in severity from mild to debilitating. One of the primary ways to combat painful joints is to take a high quality joint supplement like JOINTSTART, which combines the proven forces of MSM and Glucosamine with a special blend of other nutrients and herbs. JOINTSTART helps to rebuild cartilage and connective tissues, as well as to reduce joint pain. But we recognize that supplements alone may not totally reverse your symptoms. That’s why we suggest you also adopt certain dietary controls to help inflammatory and arthritic conditions.

It’s well known that members of the nightshade family (i.e. green peppers, potatoes, eggplant and tomatoes) can aggravate arthritic conditions in susceptible people. So it’s wise to reduce or eliminate these foods from your diet. Check the book “Eat Right For Your Type”, by Dr. Peter D’Adamo, to find out if your blood type is suited to eating these foods, or whether they will aggravate arthritic symptoms.

Another potential cause of arthritic symptoms is uric acid crystals, which deposit in the joints resulting in pain and inflammation (commonly known as Gout). Red meat is the main source of excessive uric acid in the body. Certain other foods can also contribute to inflammation. These include shellfish, organ meats, rich fatty foods (cream, sauces), alcohol, yeast, herring, sardines, anchovies, and high levels of niacin (over 100 mg a day). If you are eating high amounts of these foods you may want to stop for a while.

Essential fatty acids increase the production of prostaglandins, which help to reduce inflammation. An example is the omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown clinically to reduce pain and inflammation. These can be added to the diet in the form of flaxseed oil, salmon or krill oil capsules (if you want to use flax oil capsules, remember that it takes 14 capsules to equal one tablespoon of flax oil.) Because krill oil is an animal form of the same fatty acid, it is essentially more complete and therefore many times stronger than flax oil. This is why you can take less krill oil and get the same effect.

Krill oil is more powerful than fish oil because the phospholipid structure of the omega-3s found in krill oil makes them easier to absorb than the triglyceride form found in fish, and allows easier entrance into the cells of the body.  Krill oil also offers 40 times more antioxidant protection than common fish oils because it contains the antioxidants astaxanthin and canthaxanthin.

Antioxidants protect the joints from free-radical damage. Vitamin C and selenium are often found to be low in some arthritic sufferers. Beta-carotene and vitamin E are also essential antioxidants. Grape seed extract and pycnogenol (pine bark extract) are also powerful free radical inhibitors because they contain proanthocyanidins (PCOs), which increase intracellular levels of vitamin C, scavenge free radicals, and inhibit the destruction of collagen. PCOs also prevent the release of compounds in the body that promote inflammation and allergies.

Other nutrients that combat arthritic conditions include vitamin C, copper, and silica. These nutrients aid in the production of collagen (which maintains healthy tendons, ligaments, and cartilage) and other connective tissues. Manganese increases the antioxidant Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) levels in the body, which protects cells from damage and inflammation. (SOD injections are routinely used in Europe as a treatment for inflammatory conditions including arthritis.)  Silica is an essential element for maintaining the integrity and health of the skin, ligaments, tendons and bones.

Bamboo extract is the richest known source of silica; it contains over 70% organic silica and is 10X more potent than horsetail silica. NutriStart Bamboo Silica has a restorative effect on many of the body’s tissues and should also be considered for use with JointStart for arthritic conditions.

The JointStart family of supplements helps reduce pain from joint degeneration and arthritis. JointStart Supreme is the newest member of the JointStart family and contains Natural Eggshell Membrane and Hyaluronic Acid.

NutriKrill SuperbaTM krill oil is an excellent source of Omega-3, EPA, DHA and the antioxidant astaxanthin.  The astaxanthin and canthaxanthin in krill oil have an antioxidant value 300 times stronger than vitamins A and E.  It is one of the best anti-inflammatory Omega-3 products on the market.

Bamboo Silica helps in maintaining the integrity and health of the skin, ligaments, tendons and bones.  It is an excellent product to take with NutriKrill and JointStart to support optimal joint health.
